Renowned as American Ballet Theatre’s first African-American principal dancer, Desmond Richardson is the co-founder and co-artistic director of Complexions Contemporary Ballet. He was also a principal dancer for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and appeared on Broadway in Fosse and After Midnight, in addition to guesting with major companies throughout the world. At Jacob’s Pillow, he has taught Master Classes and performed with RhythMEK. The solo seen here, José Limón’s Sonata for Two Cellos, was revived especially for this gala performance, having previously been danced only two times by Limón himself.
