With an impressive career spanning four decades, Dianne McIntyre has been an artistic pioneer in her works for dance, theater, television and film. Her company of dancers and musicians, Sounds in Motion, toured widely for sixteen years, presenting her choreography alongside the music of Max Roach, Cecil Taylor, and many others. The excerpt seen here is from a work-in-process which was partly developed during a residency at Jacob’s Pillow, later receiving its official world premiere at Minneapolis’s Walker Art Center in the spring of 1999. Lester Bowie (1941-1999) was an American jazz trumpet player and composer who co-founded the influential avant-garde jazz group known as the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Invincible Flower represents one of his final works.
