Founded by Dame Libby Komaiko (1949-2019), this Chicago-based company continues under the leadership of artistic director Irma Suárez Ruiz and executive director Jorge Pérez. After training and performing widely with the companies of José Greco, Lola Montes, and others, Komaiko founded Ensemble Español at Northeastern Illinois University, where it remains in residence to this day. The company of 40 professional dancers, singers, and musicians represents a mosaic of world cultures, hailing from more than a dozen countries from throughout the world. Their mission is the presentation, preservation, and promotion of classical, escuela bolero, folkloric, flamenco and contemporary dance and music traditions of Spain. Their Pillow debut engagement closed with this signature work by Dame Libby Komaiko.
