This unique presentation celebrates the dance form known as Flexing, which has roots in Jamaican dancehall and bruk-up styles found in Brooklyn’s reggae clubs. Labeled “part protest, part dance party and part collective autobiography,” FLEXN was commissioned by New York’s Park Avenue Armory to weave together stories of the dancers’ lives while showcasing a unique form of dance. The show was created by Reggie (Regg Roc) Gray in collaboration with his dancers, with overall concept by visionary director Peter Sellars. At the Pillow, each performance began with an onstage panel discussion to highlight the themes of social justice underlying the virtuosic movement.
