This U.S. debut engagement of Henri Oguike Dance Company introduced American audiences to the London-based ensemble of an acclaimed Nigerian/Welsh choreographer. After training at the London Contemporary Dance School and performing in the Richard Alston Dance Company, Oguike formed this group in 1999. They tour for five months each year across the UK and abroad, and have received numerous awards for works that demonstrate Oguike’s passionate interest in the interplay between music and dance. In Second Signal, he puts both dancers and musicians together onstage with an impressive set of drums known as Taiko (which literally means “big drum” in Japanese).
