Based in New York City, Jessica Lang Dance made its official company debut at Jacob’s Pillow in 2012, presenting the world premiere of Lines Cubed. The company is dedicated to the creation, production, and performance of dance works, including choreography associated with music, opera, and mixed media compositions. Lang’s production of a Schubert song cycle, titled The Wanderer, was launched in a Creative Development Residency at the Pillow. Jessica Lang has choreographed for ballet companies across the U.S. and abroad since 1999, creating nearly a hundred works so far (including Her Door to the Sky for Pacific Northwest Ballet). She is also well-regarded as a teacher, serving as a longtime faculty member of ABT’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. Lang toured widely as a member of Twyla Tharp’s company known as THARP!, appearing with them at Jacob’s Pillow in 1998. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Lang’s mentors there included two influential Pillow faculty members, Benjamin Harkarvy and Bessie Schönberg. This engagement of Within the Space I Hold was the work’s world premiere, and the commissioned score was performed live by composer Jakub Ciupinski.
