Julie Kent has been a principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre since 1993, first joining the company as an apprentice in 1985, advancing to the corps de ballet in 1986, and becoming a soloist in 1990. She catapulted to fame at the age of 18, starring in the 1987 Hollywood film Dancers opposite Mikhail Baryshnikov, and she later appeared in the 2000 film Center Stage. At the time of the performance seen here, Robert Hill was also a principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre, having previously danced principal roles with The Royal Ballet and New York City Ballet. He has since directed Mexico’s Ballet de Monterrey for four years and is currently artistic director of the Orlando Ballet. Sir Kenneth MacMillan created Manon during his tenure as director of The Royal Ballet, where he first assumed the role of Resident Choreographer after his classic Romeo and Juliet was premiered by Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn in 1965.
