Since it was founded by Benjamin Millepied and affiliated artists in 2012, L.A. Dance Project has been producing new collaborative work by emerging and established artists while revisiting influential multidisciplinary dance collaborations from the past. The work seen here is the second part of a trilogy under the umbrella title of Gems, and Millepied evokes some of his history as a principal dancer with New York City Ballet by tipping his hat to its ground-breaking Balanchine evening known as Jewels. In this Pillow debut engagement, the stage design of Hearts & Arrows was adapted to feature the opened back wall of the Ted Shawn Theatre.
