Based in Chennai, Lakshmi Vishwanathan belongs to a family steeped in the arts. Her mother was a singer, veena player, and violinist, while her father was an arts patron and businessman connected with the film industry. Her first European tour was in 1971, and she has performed in more than twenty countries since then.
