Co-founded by Jonathan Campbell and Austin Diaz in 2011, MADBOOTS DANCE is an all-male contemporary dance company based in New York City. A founding principle was to explore a scope of masculine identity in dance, a concept which resonates powerfully at the Pillow as the birthplace of Ted Shawn’s Men Dancers. Jacob’s Pillow was also the birthplace of BEAU., a work which began taking shape during a Creative Development Residency and was premiered during the Pillow engagement seen here. This extended duet features the company’s co-founders in a much more complex view of masculinity than was possible in Shawn’s era.
