Marge and Gower Champion were known as Hollywood’s leading dance couple of the 1950s, appearing in MGM musicals such as Show Boat and in many television variety shows. Their son Blake was a Jacob’s Pillow student in the 1980s, and he joined his mother in a gala tribute to his father as a kickoff to the 1986 Pillow season. The music they’re dancing to had special meaning, as it’s from the score of a Broadway show directed and choreographed by Gower Champion, Hello, Dolly! The following year, Blake was killed in an automobile accident at the age of 25, and Marge Champion donated Blake’s Barn to Jacob’s Pillow in his memory.
