Under the artistic direction of Brazilian dancer/choreographer Leonardo Sandoval and bassist/composer Gregory Richardson, Music From The Sole is a tap dance and live music company that celebrates tap’s Afro-diasporic roots, particularly its connections to Afro-Brazilian dance and music. Since its debut in 2015, Music From The Sole has grown into a group of 15 dancer-musicians with tour dates across the U.S. and abroad. Sandoval first came to Jacob’s Pillow as a participant in the 2014 Tap Program, where he met Michelle Dorrance and became a core member of Dorrance Dance. Through his work with Dorrance, he met Richardson and the idea for this company was born.
