Created for legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova, this iconic solo remained a cornerstone of Pavlova’s extensive worldwide tours for more than 20 years. Nina Ananiashvili was born in Tblisi, Georgia, and joined the Bolshoi Ballet in 1981, later becoming the company’s prima ballerina and bringing a select group of Bolshoi stars to the Pillow in 1999. She has guested with companies all over the world and was a principal dancer of American Ballet Theatre from 1993 to 2009. In 2004, Ananiashvili returned to her native country as the artistic director of the State Ballet of Georgia. Performing the music for this Gala performance were the imminent cellist Yehuda Hanani (founder of Close Enounters With Music) and longtime music director for the Jacob’s Pillow Ballet Program, Ramona Pansegrau.
