Since its founding in 2004 by choreographer Sarah Slipper in Portland, Oregon, NW Dance Project has been dedicated to producing innovative contemporary works by both established and emerging dance makers. The company has premiered more than 200 original dances so far, choosing to exclusively commission new works rather than acquiring existing repertory. In MemoryHouse, the viewer is taken into the internal domestic world of a woman and a man, though it’s left unclear whether we’re seeing real-time events or selected memories. For this Pillow debut engagement, Slipper chose to open the upstage doors of the Doris Duke Theatre and incorporate the outdoor landscape into the performance.
