Since its founding in 1972, Pacific Northwest Ballet has become one of the largest and most highly-regarded ballet companies in the U.S. First achieving national prominence under the longtime direction of former New York City Ballet soloists Kent Stowell and Francia Russell, the company’s reins were taken over by the prominent NYC Ballet star Peter Boal in 2005. Boal has expanded the company’s repertory in many ways, including a complete evening of works by Ulysses Dove and a rare concert dance commission from Broadway’s Susan Stroman. This Pillow engagement culminated in a world premiere by Jessica Lang, whose own company had made its world debut at the Pillow in 2012. The work seen here was inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, specifically her Patio Door series which is referenced in the scenic design devised by Lang herself.
