In 1996, PARADIGM was founded by the Solomons Company/Dance as a performing trio anchored by Carmen de Lavallade, Gus Solomons jr, and Dudley Williams. Through these performers and others, the ensemble’s founding goal was to illustrate the eloquence that years of experience bring to dance expression. Choreographer Dwight Rhoden performed with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and founded his own company, Complexions, in addition to creating works for prominent companies throughout the U.S. In a review of It All, one critic noted the possible allusion to Lester Horton’s The Beloved, a duet that de Lavallade had begun performing nearly five decades earlier.
