Formally organized by Joan Myers Brown as the Philadelphia Dance Company in 1970, PHILADANCO! has long been known by its more expressive one-word name throughout the U.S. and as a cultural ambassador around the world. Nearing its 50th anniversary, the company strives to fulfill its mission “to present the highest quality of professional dance performance and to provide exceptional training for the improvement of skills for emerging professional dancers and choreographers in a nurturing environment while increasing the appreciation of dance among its many communities.” Choreographer Christopher Huggins is a former member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, who was inspired to created the work seen here by “enemies that live within our midst.”
