Recognized as North America’s leading Armenian dance company, the Boston-based Sayat Nova was founded in 1986. The company’s name comes from a famous 18th century troubadour, whose beautiful music and poetry captured the essence of the Armenian spirit. The work seen here is one of six sections of a dance entitled A Journey to Armenia. Also known as “Dance of the Cranes,” it commemorates the cranes that served as messengers of hope during the Armenian Genocide of 1915, bringing much-awaited news from the homeland.
