Seán Curran began his training with traditional Irish step dancing as a young boy in Boston, and originally made his mark as a dancer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. He performed with the company in its Pillow debut in 1989 and in several subsequent engagements and residencies. Curran’s own company made its Pillow debut in 1999 and premiered a collaboration with composer Ricky Ian Gordon here in 2004. That same year, the company performed Folk Dances for the Future as part of the Pillow’s Season Opening Gala. Curran has extensive credits in both theater and opera in addition to dance, performing in the original off-Broadway cast of Stomp! and choreographing for Broadway and many prominent opera companies. A renowned teacher, Curran now chairs the Dance Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, his alma mater. Speaking of Sonata in an interview, Curran commented, “It’s about how we find healing in the group with shared experiences.”
