Deeply moved and inspired by Master Vempati Chinna Satyam’s pure and graceful tradition, Shantala dedicated herself to the Kuchipudi style (first introduced outside India by Indrani. Since the age of thirteen she has worked with some of the greatest artists of our time, including choreographers Maurice Béjart and Pina Bausch, and director Peter Brook. She made her Pillow debut in 2008, performing not only her own full-evening work, but also participating in David Michalek’s Slow Dancing project. She most recently appeared at the Pillow in 2013’s Akasha.
