Eastman was founded in 2010 as an avenue to produce and disseminate the work of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, not only in dance, but also in the genres of theatre, opera, musicals, and other forms. Based in Cherkaoui’s hometown of Antwerp, Belgium, the company offers this groundbreaking choreographer the means to create work in his own way, apart from the commissions from others such as Aakash Odedra and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. Among his more celebrated commissions was a music video for Beyoncé and Jay-Z in 2018, and he premiered Antidote at the Pillow in 2022. Seen as one of the dancers here, Cherkaoui created Fractus V to explore the power of language as a means of government control, inspired by the writings of linguist and political theorist Noam Chomsky.
