Tania Pérez-Salas began dancing in her native Mexico City at the age of eight, and founded her own company there in 1994. She trained with one of Mexico’s leading contemporary dance teachers, Xavier Francis, and has since worked in dance, theater, and feature films as an actress, dancer, and choreographer. Pérez-Salas was inspired to create the work seen here by Ivan Illich’s essay, “H20 and the Waters of Forgetfulness,” aiming to reflect the symbolic role water plays as a vital, life-giving force. The entire stage of the Ted Shawn Theatre was submerged in water for this work’s U.S. premiere.
