Founded by Sue Yeon Park in 1986, the New York Korean Performing Arts Center has played an instrumental role in instilling pride in Korean culture to second-generation Korean Americans and Korean adoptees, as well as fostering intercultural dialogue with American society. The group emphasizes the subtle grace and beauty of Korean traditional dance, performing at prestigious national museums and festivals including Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Folk Festival. The fan dance seen here is one of the most popular traditional Korean folk dances, developed in the 18th century.
