More than a half century after he witnessed a performance by Isadora Duncan, Frederick Ashton conceived this ballet to evoke her essence rather than literally recreating her choreography. Created for Lynn Seymour, it is danced here by former Bolshoi ballerina Natalia Osipova. Under the directorship of Kevin O’Hare since 2012, The Royal Ballet unites tradition and innovation in world-class performances at London’s Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. The company’s extensive repertory embraces 19th-century classics, the singular legacy of works by Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton and Principal Choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, and a new canon of ballets by Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor and Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon.
