After making his professional debut with Laura Dean at the BAM Opera House, Timothy Buckley began a long association with Nina Wiener and Dancers, the company with whom he made his first Pillow appearance in 1983. The following year, with his own group, he was awarded one of the first Bessie awards for choreography. The group continued to appear in multiple festivals and venues in Europe and New York. Seen here in its world premiere, The Grave Digger was described by The New York Times as “a dance for a man lost in the only world available to him.” After a 15-year hiatus, Buckley returned to dance in 2017.
