For more than 30 years beginning in 1980, Trisha Brown enjoyed a close relationship with Jacob’s Pillow. Work on her iconic Set and Reset was begun with commissioning funds awarded by the Pillow, and Brown presided over a 40th anniversary celebration of her company in 2011. A founding member of the Judson Dance Theater along with Steve Paxton and others, Trisha Brown taught at the Pillow, created and premiered works here, performed on all three of the Pillow’s stages, and conducted creative residencies both during the summer and in the off-season. Reviewing the New York premiere of Lateral Pass several months before the performance seen here, Anna Kisselgoff referred to it as “a circus piece,” but added that “its underlying formal concerns are felt beneath the merriment.”
