One of Israel’s top contemporary dance troupes, Vertigo Dance Company was co-founded by choreographer Noa Wertheim and general manager Adi Sha’al in 1992. Wertheim was born in the U.S. and grew up in Israel, where she met Sha’al while they were both with the Jerusalem Tamar Dance Company. In addition to Vertigo, they also run a school in Jerusalem and an artist village at Kibbutz Netiv HaLamed-Hey where their activities are devoted to the concept of community. The company’s name originated from their first artistic collaboration, a duet called Vertigo which was inspired by Sha’al’s experience of dizziness while he was serving in the Israeli Air Force. The title of the full-evening Mana translates as “a vessel of light” and this work explores a world of light and darkness, black and white, and yin and yang.
