Zvi Gotheiner was born and raised in a kibbutz in northern Israel and began his career as a talented violinist. He came to American on a dance scholarship in 1978 and performed with the Joyce Trisler Danscompany and Feld Ballets/NY before returning to Israel to dance with Batsheva. He formed his own New York-based company in 1989, and has pursued parallel careers as a teacher, choreographer, and company director. ZviDance made its Pillow debut in 2004 with a program that included Lapse. The evening-length Escher/Bacon/Rothko is divided into three sections, each inspired by an iconic visual artist. The New York Times lauded Gotheiner’s choreography in the section seen here for evoking “Escher’s all-at-once images of transformation and infinity.”
