In 2009, founder Sonia Harris began the first City of Boston line dance program for adults with Barbara Mark. Since then, they have participated in City of Boston events to inspire good health and wellness, offering classes like “Men Who Cook” as well as partnerships with many regional partners. They have also received accolades for their line dance showcase team, The Bad Girlz of New England Soul, which has been featured in Boston’s Line Dance Showdown, Boston Blend Blues Fest, and Baltimore’s UC Star Awards. The current group is under the direction of Barbara Mark along with LaTondra Finley-Jones and Lenore Curtis. In Soul Line dancing, all participants execute the same choreographed moves to R&B and hip-hop music. This fun way to exercise, empower, and connect has become particularly popular in Black communities nationwide.
