The founder and director of Dorrance Dance, Michelle Dorrance was the recipient of the 2013 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award and has been lauded as one of today’s most imaginative tap choreographers. She grew up performing with the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of Gene Medler, and has since performed in STOMP and with the companies of Savion Glover and Jason Samuels Smith among many others. The original world premiere engagement of The Blues Project featured the live music of composer and music director Toshi Reagon, who reprised her role when the work moved into the Ted Shawn Theatre in 2015. In between these two engagements, Dorrance Dance premiered ETM: The Initial Approach in a two-week run, most recently reprised as ETM: Double Down. Soloist Dormeshia brought her own work to the Pillow in 2016, And Still You Must Swing.
