Interdisciplinary artist Alexandria “Brinae Ali” Bradley was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, where she served as artistic director of Tapology, Inc. She has also directed the Philadelphia-based Sound and Movement LLC, and worked with Ping Chong and Company, NJPAC, Moving History, and the Apollo Theater. She has appeared both on and off-Broadway, and currently serves as a lecturer at Johns Hopkins Peabody Conservatory. The work seen here explores the career of Baby Laurence (1921-1974), a largely forgotten tap dance innovator whose legacy has received greater recognition through Ali’s efforts. She has also highlighted the career of her late mentor Mable Lee in a 2022 work entitled Remembering Mable, and collaborated with Dormeshia in celebrating Juanita Pitts as part of Unsung Sheroes of the 20th Century.
