SOUNDspace

The founder and director of Dorrance Dance, Michelle Dorrance, has been lauded as one of today’s most imaginative tap choreographers. She grew up performing with the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of Gene Medler, and has since performed in STOMP and with the companies of Savion Glover and Jason Samuels Smith among many others. Dorrance received the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award in 2013, the same year her company premiered SOUNDspace. In 2021, a multi-venue celebration entitled “Dorrance Dance Plays the Pillow” featured Pillow commissions Ways to Now and Untitled Waveforms. Among other Pillow-commissioned works by Dorrance Dance are All Good Things Comes to an End, both ETM: Double Down and ETM: The Initial Approach, and The Blues Project, a full-evening work in collaboration with Toshi Reagon which had a return engagement in 2015.
