Led by Belgian-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui since 2022 (and sometimes known as Ballet Genève or the Geneva Ballet), this venerable troupe made its U.S. debut at the Pillow in 2007 under the direction of Philippe Cohen. Although its primary Pillow offering in 2011 was Joëlle Bouvier’s evening-length Romeo and Juliet, the company also presented a memorable single performance of Benjamin Millepied’s Closer as part of that season’s opening Gala. While Faun was originally slated to be presented at the Pillow with a striking painted backdrop, a shipping mishap necessitated performing in front of a natural background instead.
