The founder and director of Dorrance Dance, Michelle Dorrance was the recipient of the 2013 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award and has been lauded as one of today’s most imaginative tap choreographers. She grew up performing with the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of Gene Medler, and has since performed in STOMP and with the companies of Savion Glover and Jason Samuels Smith among many others. This world premiere engagement of The Blues Project featured the live music of composer and music director Toshi Reagon, and the same forces reunited for a return engagement in 2015. In between these two seasons, Dorrance Dance premiered another full-evening work entitled ETM: The Initial Approach.
