This world premiere was created by stellar jazz tap soloists who have deep connections to Jacob’s Pillow, both individually and with other companies. Among the world’s most virtuosic rhythm tap dancers, they enlisted 2016 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award winner Camille A. Brown to help illustrate the connections between swing, rhythm tap, and other dance forms. Dormeshia made her Pillow debut in 1993 with Jazz Tap Ensemble, and has returned multiple times with Dorrance Dance, notably in The Blues Project. Derick K. Grant boasts similar credits, while also having served on the faculty of several programs in The School at Jacob’s Pillow. Jason Samuels Smith headlined a rare two-week engagement in 2009, leading his company known as A.C.G.I (Anybody Can Get It). Together these four artists created a full evening that honors their heritage by taking a quote from Jimmy Slyde as its title.
