Ephrat Asherie Dance (EAD) is an urban dance theater company dedicated to a new movement language combining the rawness of underground styles with a contemporary aesthetic. Drawing from breaking, house, hip-hop, and vogue, EAD explores narrative aspects of these social and club traditions, placing them in a concert dance context. After having debuted in 2013 on the Inside/Out series, EAD returned the following season to present Step 4.2 in an exclusive production known as Unreal Hip-Hop, teamed with The Wondertwins and Decadancetheatre. The world premiere seen here was created in part during residencies at the Pillow Lab. The music of Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth accompanies the work, performed by a live quartet of musicians led by the choreographer’s brother, Ehud Asherie.
