Ephrat Asherie Dance (EAD) is an urban dance theater company dedicated to a new movement language combining the rawness of underground styles with a contemporary aesthetic. Drawing from breaking, house, hip-hop, and vogue, EAD explores narrative aspects of these social and club traditions, placing them in a concert dance context. In this debut on the Inside/Out series, Asherie presented an ode to Nina Simone along with three group works. EAD returned the following season to present Step 4.2 in an exclusive production known as Unreal Hip-Hop, while Asherie herself has also made many Pillow appearances with Dorrance Dance, Archie Burnett, and others. In 2018, EAD presented a world premiere set to the music of Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth.
