RUBBERBANDance Group was founded by Victor Quijada in 2002 and is co-directed by Quijada and Anne Plamandon. The Montreal-based company’s dancers come from both contemporary and breakdance backgrounds, united in their investigation of human relationships through hip-hop dynamics and contemporary classicism. As a Mexican-American raised in Los Angeles, Quijada began dancing on the streets at age eight, later studying with postmodernist pioneer Rudy Perez and then honing his performing skills with Twyla Tharp. His style shows evidence of all these influences, retaining the sensibility of a street dancer along with a backbone of solid technical training.
