Known as a major solo performer in her native Denmark, Kitt Johnson is the founder and artistic director of the company X-act. She has worked extensively with site-specific projects throughout Europe and has created a series of ensemble works which have challenged her artistic vision. Her background is in elite athletics, modern and new dance, contact improvisation, martial arts, and butoh. This performance was part of a shared program with the South African dancer/choreographer Vincent Mantsoe. Stigma was nominated for the prestigious Danish Reumert (Award) in 1999, an award she later won for another solo work, The Mirror.
