The 2025 season at Jacob’s Pillow encompasses a number of returning artists in addition to some notable Pillow debuts. Ten returning artists or companies are highlighted in this playlist, all of whom will be featured either in the Ted Shawn Theatre or in the brand-new Doris Duke Theatre.

Next:

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

Pas de Duke, 2024

This dynamic duet, originally created by Alvin Ailey for Judith Jamison and Mikhail Baryshnikov, is performed here by two Alumni of The School at Jacob’s Pillow, Jacquelin Harris and Patrick Coker. Along with the rest of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, they will return August 20-24, marking the first time the full company has performed at the Pillow since 1963. Much like Pas de Duke, another Ailey classic that was presented here for one performance only was Cry with Linda Celeste Sims in 2007.

Next:

Sekou McMiller & Friends

Mambo Inn, 2024

Seen here on the outdoor stage in 2024, Sekou McMiller & Friends makes its Ted Shawn Theatre debut from July 30 through August 3. McMiller will present the world premiere of Urban Love Suite, the latest incarnation of his dance and music project known as the Afro Latin Jazz and Soul Experience.

Next:

Dorrance Dance

SOUNDspace, 2023

Opening the 2025 season from June 25-29 will be the world premiere of a new collaboration between Michelle Dorrance and Ephrat Asherie. The clip seen here shows the most recent engagement by Dorrance Dance, which followed two outdoor presentations during the pandemic: Untitled Waveforms on the Leir Stage and the site-specific Ways to Now. A previous world premiere, All Good Things Come to an End, was seen in 2018.

BODYTRAFFIC

SNAP, 2022

From July 2 through 6, the Los Angeles-based BODYTRAFFIC will make its first appearances in the Ted Shawn Theatre. They’re seen here in their most recent week-long Pillow engagement on the Leir Stage, following their Pillow debut in 2013 and a well-received return engagement two years later. Included on their 2025 program will be a work by their new Creative Partner, Trey McIntyre.

Faye Driscoll

Thank You For Coming: Play, 2018

In the same year she received the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award, Faye Driscoll presented this installment in a series of works that examined the relationship between audiences and performers. The first work in this trilogy, Thank You For Coming: Attendance, was seen the previous year. From August 13 to 17, Driscoll will present her highly-acclaimed Weathering in the new Doris Duke Theatre.

Ephrat Asherie Dance

Odeon, 2018

Ever since her first appearance on the Leir Stage in 2013, Ephrat Asherie has been a frequent Pillow performer. Her company returned the following year with Step 4.2 and premiered the work seen in this clip after developing it in a Pillow Lab residency. Asherie will collaborate with Michelle Dorrance on a new work opening the season from June 25-29.

The Sarasota Ballet

Monotones I, 2015

Previously seen at the Pillow only once (though scheduled for the cancelled 2020 season), The Sarasota Ballet returns July 16-20 with a mixed program including a world premiere by Jessica Lang. In their Pillow debut season, they presented this rare abstract trio by Sir Frederick Ashton.

Dorrance Dance

The Blues Project, 2013

After having made her Pillow debut in 2011, Michelle Dorrance premiered The Blues Project in the Doris Duke Theatre in 2013, bringing it to the Ted Shawn Theatre in 2015. This same trajectory was followed with ETM: The Initial Approach in 2014 followed by ETM: Double Down in 2016. In 2025, Dorrance teams up with Ephrat Asherie for the premiere of The Center Will Not Hold from June 25-29.

Ballet BC

Aniel, 2013

From August 13-17, Ballet BC will be returning to the Ted Shawn Theatre, for the first time under the artistic direction of Medhi Walerski. This follows a decade under choreographer Emily Molnar, whose Aniel is seen here. In one of their previous appearances, the company presented Gustavo Ramírez Sansano’s Consagración among other works.

Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company

Story / Time, 2012

The most recent Pillow appearance of the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Company featured Story/Time, a work which will also be on the program (with Jones himself) from August 6-10. On previous visits, the company presented Serenade/The Proposition and Chapel/Chapter.

Stephen Petronio Company

City of Twist, 2003

Bookending a noteworthy Pillow history that began even before the earliest days of his company, Stephen Petronio has chosen to present the final performances of Stephen Petronio Company here from July 23-27. This excerpt from City of Twist highlights a work that Petronio created in response to the events of 9/11.

Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company

D-Man in the Waters, 2000

When the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Company made its Pillow debut in 1989, the program featured D-Man in the Waters, a signature work which will also be on the company’s program from August 6-10.  Jones has also presented notable solos here including Ballad in 2008 and Three Dances in 2000.

Ballet British Columbia

Return to the Strange Land, 1993

The company now known as Ballet BC (appearing August 13-17) began its life as Ballet British Columbia and made its Pillow debut more than 30 years ago with a program including this work by Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián. Their most recent Pillow appearance in 2019 featured Sharon Eyal’s Bedroom Folk.

Ailey II

"Wade in the Water" from Revelations, 1988

In connection with the performance seen here, Alvin Ailey made his final visit to Jacob’s Pillow in the year before his death at the age of 58. Revelations holds a special place in Pillow history, as the iconic solo “I Wanna Be Ready” was first performed here. The full company returns to the Pillow for the first time in six decades to close out the season August 20-24.
