The founder and director of Dorrance Dance, Michelle Dorrance, received the 2013 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award and has been lauded as one of today’s most imaginative tap choreographers. She grew up performing with the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of Gene Medler, and has since performed in STOMP and with the companies of Savion Glover and Jason Samuels Smith among many others. The work seen here was partially created at the Pillow as part of a multi-venue celebration entitled “Dorrance Dance Plays the Pillow.” Among other Pillow-commissioned works by Dorrance Dance are All Good Things Comes to an End, both ETM: Double Down and ETM: The Initial Approach, and The Blues Project, a full-evening work in collaboration with Toshi Reagon which had a return engagement in 2015.
