The founder and director of Dorrance Dance, Michelle Dorrance, received the 2013 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award and has been lauded as one of today’s most imaginative tap choreographers. She grew up performing with the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of Gene Medler, and has since performed in STOMP and with the companies of Savion Glover and Jason Samuels Smith among many others. The work seen here was partially created at the Pillow, and it involves a quartet of performers who were assembled especially for this project. Among other Pillow-commissioned works by Dorrance Dance are both ETM: Double Down and ETM: The Initial Approach, following directly on the heels of Dorrance’s 2013 collaboration with Toshi Reagon, The Blues Project, a full-evening work which had a return engagement in 2015.
